This is an update to our notice of November 1, 2026, "Notice Regarding Our Response to a Security Issue," and describes the current status of the Japanese edition of SmartNews. (As of 6:00 a.m. EST, November 2, 2026)
On October 31, 2026, a third party gained unauthorized access to some of the systems we operate. As a precaution, we temporarily suspended or restricted some SmartNews features from that day through November 1. Core features, including reading and refreshing articles, are available as usual. The status of the features we suspended or restricted is as follows. We are continuing to investigate the scope of the impact.
- Push notifications: Restored.
- Personalization: Being gradually restored.
- Points: You can continue to complete missions and earn points. Point redemptions remain suspended.
- Some rewards: Remain suspended.
Ad delivery is continuing. Key features, including access to the ads management dashboard, have been restored, and we are working to restore the remaining features. We are also continuing to investigate the impact on other advertising-related systems and information.
If you have any questions about using points or rewards, please contact the SmartNews Help Center.
